Humming Bird

This little humming bird sat on the feeder for a long time today. It's quite a cool, cloudy, rainy day. I kept trying to take his picture, but he would fly off. I finally took it through the glass in the sun room door. Lord, thank you for the tiny little humming birds. What a wonder in Your Creation.

Do you know what kind of hummingbird? I love them too! We have several kinds at our lake. Last summer we had one that is not suppose to go any further north than Costa Rica but we had the bird book and identified it. I think it got in with some other hummingbirds on their way north. This purple iridescent hummingbird sat on the wire on our deck for about 5 minutes and we were all spellbound....so we didn't move at all. Therefore we don't have a picture but about 6 of us saw it.

I'll have to look him up because he doesn't look like the ones we usually have. The common bird here is the ruby throated humming bird, but this one is all dark as you can see. So if I find out what this one is I'll be sure to post it.

I just had another look...I think this is the female Ruby Throated. She does not have a redmarking like her male counterpart and she does have a dark back. We get lots of them at our lake.

I don't know, I think it's too dark to be a female. But, I do now think it's a ruby throated male, we just can only see his back. Can we agree to disagree?

Sure...debate is always good for the soul!! I have a bird book here but it doesn't show both male & female so hard to tell. They are awesome to watch no matter what kind!
